Stand-Up Barber Routine

On Sunday I went to get a haircut. Not that this is a milestone or anything, as I go every couple of weeks. However, this visit I left with a little less hair, a little less money, but a bit more entertained.

As I was called to the chair, I noticed the barber looking at, what appeared to be notes on the counter. No big deal. A list of items to pick from the market, dry cleaning list, maybe even tip amounts. Bottom line, who knows at this point. As I settle into the chair, I get my first taste of the stand-up comedian/barber. I’d been in the chair 30 seconds when I get “How ya’ll doin’ tonight?” Well, it’s 11:30 am on Sunday morning and I’m the only person in there, so there’e no ya’ll and no “tonight”. As time passed, I received a trim, a few “Man walks into a bar” jokes, a couple of the Seinfeld-type observations of life, and a few jokes that I had no idea what the punch-line was meant to be.

As I paid my bill and left the shop, I couldn’t help but realize how much I had actually been entertained by a barber. It even made me feel a little better about handing over my $12 bucks.

So how much do you tip in that situation?

lol I was waiting for you to say the ‘notes’ were actually outlines for his comedy routine. I’ve had cab drivers like that too, they can be quite entertaining.

Actually, when I read the header for this post, I thought you got your hair cut standing up. And what followed of course, was mental imagery of you getting your trim by either a.) Andre the Giant, or b.) A midget on a ladder.
