Wilson Pickett, 1941-2006

I’m not sure how this slipped past me. Wilson Pickett died on Thursday. Mr. Pickett was an Alabama-born R&B soul legend who had hits “Mustang Sally” and “In the Midnight Hour”.

Mr. Pickett left Alabama after he had been abused by his mother, who he later called “the baddest women in my book”. Mr. Pickett moved to Detroit to live with his father. It was here he met up with renowned producer Jerry Wexler. Mr. Wexler had worked with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan and Dusty Springfield.

Wilson Pickett and his legacy will live on thanks to the many bands that, to this day, cover his music.
