Installs made easy

One of the things I love most about the mac, is the ease of installing software. This is just one of the many areas in which Apple puts MS to shame.

Usually one of the first things people say when they see how easy it is to install new software on a mac is “Wow, it’s a lot harder in Windows”.

What are a few of the things you like most about your mac?

I also love how easy it is to uninstall a program. Sure, there are a few pref panels and settings that hang around after but nothing like the crazy fragmented mess that is a windows program removal.

And how about connecting to a wireless network or router? It took me 10 seconds on a Mac, and about 10 hours on a PC.

Gotta disagree about the ease of uninstalling. It’s easy enough to get rid of the app itself, but not the supporting files, which the Windows Add and Remove control panel at least attempts to do. Notice the arrival of AppZapper and its variants.

My favorite thing about the Mac is its refreshing lack of viruses and spyware.

But windows leaves nasty registry files and cache files and shortcuts all over the damn place after an uninstall - whereas OS-X leaves a few harmless pref files that don’t appear to make anything unstable. When I was totally reliant on a PC I would spend half my time just trying to fix errors caused by dirty uninstalls. Not fun.
