Junk Mail. We as Americans receive lots of it. Seems not a day goes by that I don’t get a few credit card offers, mortgage offers, or adverts for shopping stores I’ve never heard of. Junk mail has gotten progressively worse. In fact, here are a few facts about junk mail:
- 100 million trees are used to produce junk mail, EACH YEAR.
- 250,000 homes could be heated with one day’s supply of junk mail
- Americans receive almost 4 million tons of junk mail every year
As most of you know, your information is readily available (and sold) to all types of third party companies and vendors around the world. Maybe you didn’t know that some of the places selling our information are the very places we “trust” to keep our information. Banks, credit card companies, airline frequent flyer programs, cable companies and even credit bureaus sell this information.
But then again, some junk mail is interesting. I especially like the assorted array of “collectible” catalogs sent to the previous owner of my residence.
What’s the most interesting piece of junk mail you’v ever received?
