Blog down time

May 31st, 2006

I’ve been struggling for the last couple of days to find the time to stop by here and jot down a little something. It always seems to be the case as the weather warms and holidays occur. It seems the motivation lacks a little in terms of updating a website. I see it so often around the blog world.

I have lots of things to write about, more or less, finding the time to write them is the problem. The journal I keep with me is full of little notes and observations, as seen through my eyes and experiences. Maybe it’s time for me to dig in and pull from the pages a few of those stories. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll find a little more time to share them with you.

Looks more and more each day like the long-awaited release of Thunderbird 2.0 is well within our reach.

I’ve been using Thunderbird for a long time now. In my opinion, it’s one of the most solid mail applications I’ve ever used. I have nothing but good things to say about Thunderbird and I’m sure 2.0 will only solidify my thoughts on the product.

If anyone has other news about some of the features and updates, drop me a line and let me know what they are.

Warm weather advantage

May 29th, 2006

I took advantage of the warm weather and ventured out for the first long ride of the summer this morning. 22 miles. I was doubting myself for the decision on the way to the trails, but once I arrived, I was glad I made the decision.

The trails weren’t busy at all. Most of the time I had the trails to myself, but there was the sparse bit of traffic from time to time. The trails were dry and the ground in good shape for fast-paced riding. I realized pretty quickly that my bike needed a tune-up, so I took it a little safer than normal. I happened to avoid the all-expected first crash of the season, which if you’ve mountain biked for any period of time, you know it’ll happen sooner or later. Sometime I prefer just to go ahead and get it out of the way. Goes a long way in building your confidence once you’ve crashed and gotten back on the saddle.

All-in-all, it was great to get out, but I’m expecting to spend the next few days wondering if such a long ride was the way to break in your saddle from a long Michigan winter.

My Camino woes

May 27th, 2006

As I’ve mentioned before, Camino has been the browser of choice for me as of late, both at home and work. I really like the fact that it’s lightweight and that it does exactly what a browser should do. That is, until recently. I’m not sure what the deal is, but both my installs of Camino have gone bonkers. To the point, that I’ve switched to Safari (maybe for good).

My home install renders all web forms un-usable. I’ve tried blowing away my install and pulling down a new version, along with removing each and every profile and preference file I can find on my machine. No luck.

At work, the browser gives me nothing but my little buddy, the beachball. No matter what I try, same result. I’ve tried several config settings, but it all comes back to a browser issue.

I’ve scoured the forums and done everyone’s favorite troubleshooting technique, ‘googled it’, with no luck.

So for the time being and maybe until something a tad bit sexier comes along, Safari has taken on the chief roll of serving all that is the Interweb. All hail the chief.
