As first reported on Slashdot, several retailers are in talks with the motion picture industry to offer movie burning kiosks. This would essentially be a kiosk where a user can burn movies on-demand. Movies would be available on DVDs or copied onto a portable device.
While both movie attendance and DVD sales have slipped, this appears another attempt to curb the illegal downloading that is currently happening in the industry. While I’m not sure the idea will take off, I do think some merit exists in offering this type of service.
