Biking eyewear

August 12th, 2006 by Jason

Lots of bikers wear some type of eyewear while biking. While this is a great idea, some considerations need to be made when selecting the appropriate eyewear for you. Listed below are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Select a pair of glasses that are shatterproof.
  • Select glasses that offer protection to your eyes from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays.
  • Make sure the glasses fit snugly to your face.
  • Look for glasses with a yellow tint. These allow for better viewing when riding at dusk, when shadows are typically present.
  • Avoid dark lenses. These make locating obstacles more difficult on wooded trails.

I’ve been riding with a pair Oakley’s for about 6 years now and I must say they have far exceeded my expectations.

Do you use eyewear when riding? If so, what types?
