Jazz at Lincoln Center

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

Many of you know that I’m a big fan of jazz music. For that reason, I wanted to share a site with you that I visit often for information and happenings in the world of jazz.

Jazz at Lincoln Center puts a fresh spin on a genre of music that has been defined as classy, smooth, and music for the masses. JALC (as it’s called for short) has some great features including an extensive Education section, a jazzcast section and much more.

If your new to jazz or just want to explore the world of jazz, head on over to JALC.

Kickoff is upon us

Saturday, September 9th, 2006

This weekend the NFL kicks off it’s first full weekend of action. Here in Detroit, the questions are the same. How will the Lions be? How many games will the Lions win? Will there be any improvement now that Harrington is gone? Is this new coach for real?

Before people get too involved (and let down), let’s not forget the other team in town right now, which continues to make a name for themselves.

It’s September and baseball means something. Football can take a back seat, at least for a little bit longer.

Laurel Canyon - Music hangout

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

In a time when music was free and spirited, Laurel Canyon was the place stars called home. Entire bands called Laurel Canyon home. A few residents included: the Eagles, the Byrds, Crosby, Stills, and Nash and a few solo’s like Joni Mitchell and Jim Morrison hung out there as well.

In a new book, Laurel Canyon: The Inside Story of Rock and Roll’s Legendary Neighborhood, author Michael Walker tells of a time when these rock stars hung out, shopped, and wrote some of the most inspiring music known today.

Walker has his theory as to why so many musicians called this place home:

“Musicians need to breathe the same air,” he says. “And these were some of the best musicians of their generation, sort of by luck and happenstance jammed into this beautiful, leafy, little neighborhood.”

This is one book soon to be in my collection.
