The Plug-in Bug

Monday, December 11th, 2006

Lots of hype (and reason so) for the new Firefox plug-in Firebug. With the slogan: “Web Development Evolved” displayed along side the name of the plug-in, large expectations are set and this plug-in doesn’t fall short of delivery.

With an extensive list of features and capabilities, this little plug-in will quickly find a way to the top of your favorites list. A few of those features are listed below:

  • Inspect and edit HTML
  • Tweak CSS to perfection
  • Visualize CSS metrics
  • Monitor network activity
  • Debug and profile JavaScript
  • Quickly find errors
  • Explore the DOM
  • Execute JavaScript on the fly
  • Logging for JavaScript

More info can be be found over at the official site, along with a screencast.

Enjoy the bug and see how your web development evolves.

Image of the Dashboard widget, Gwidget

Always keeping an eye out for a widget that saves a little time and makes life easier, I was interested in Gwidget when I came across the feed in my reader. After a little research, I found that Gwidget returns the search results inside the widget in Dashboard, unlike most search widgets. Most open your default browser and display the results there.

This got me to thinking. Usually when I need to search I head to my browser (Safari), and use the built in Google search box there. Results are returned to me in my browser, which I need to use to find further info or to read the search results article/page.

So, this being said, which way do you prefer to search? In the browser itself or with a Dashboard widget?

In the world of sports, fans are used to teams having losing streaks. Some teams go years without winning.

Here in Detroit, one fan (and close friend of mine) has had enough. In an open letter to Mr. Ford, change is called for. Many fans in the Detroit area share the same sentiment. Join in and voice your opinion.
