Going green

February 28th, 2007

Seems everyone and everything is going green. From movies like An Inconvenient Truth to featured furniture in the Crate and Barrel catalog, green is in.

Green is more than a fad. Green is changing the way we live our lives. It affects the way we work, eat, and sleep. Green even plays a role in our economy.

I, for one, am in full support of green. I hope you do too!

iMac in black

February 26th, 2007

Lots of talk surrounding the fact that a James Bond version of the iMac is on its way. All decked out for a black-tie affair.

While I’m all for Apple and new innovation, I’m not sure on the black. In my opinion, one thing that has always stood out for Apple, is the sleek, clean, modern look of the white iMac. The appearance of cutting edge, yet hip modern technology that adds to the cool factor of owning a mac.

As it is now, the black iMac would only be available as a higher end package, but that may change if the black iMac were to see the same acceptance as the black iPods and the MacBook.

Which do you prefer, the new black color scheme or the traditional white scheme?

Hockey needs kids

Image of a goalie mask

Hockey viewership has been in decline for some time now. Since hockey lost the major network television deal and since the game has been in this “cleanup” mode (Commish Bettmans’ attempt to remove fighting from the game), fans have turned hockey off.

NBC has the Game of the Week, but come on, once a week on major television network? The PBR bullriding thing gets a weekly spot on NBC as well. Hockey has been moved to Versus, which by the way, isn’t available from all cable carriers.

Anyways, I’m getting off topic here. The point of the post is to call attention to a goalie mask contest being held over at SIKids.com. Kids can submit a mask they’ve colored and decorated. It’s great to see some of the talent in the kids, along with the amount of entries in the photo gallery.

It gives me a little faith that hockey is reaching the kids out there and kids still enjoy the game.

Screening all of you

February 24th, 2007

It could soon be coming to an airport near you. A new x-ray screening device has been put into testing at airports in Phoenix, Los Angeles and New York.

The new machine has the ability to peek underneath passengers’ clothing to search for guns, bombs or liquid explosives. Initially, the machine will only be used to scan volunteers, but that may change.

From the New York Times:

Security officials examining the head-to-toe images work in a closed booth, hidden from public view, agency officials said. Special “privacy” software intentionally blurs the image, creating an outline of a body that is clear enough to see a collarbone, bellybutton or weapon, but flattens details of revealing contours.

Several issues are at debate here: privacy and health concerns due to the radiation used in the scanning, to name a few.

How do you feel about the extra screening?
