Hockey needs kids

Image of a goalie mask

Hockey viewership has been in decline for some time now. Since hockey lost the major network television deal and since the game has been in this “cleanup” mode (Commish Bettmans’ attempt to remove fighting from the game), fans have turned hockey off.

NBC has the Game of the Week, but come on, once a week on major television network? The PBR bullriding thing gets a weekly spot on NBC as well. Hockey has been moved to Versus, which by the way, isn’t available from all cable carriers.

Anyways, I’m getting off topic here. The point of the post is to call attention to a goalie mask contest being held over at SIKids.com. Kids can submit a mask they’ve colored and decorated. It’s great to see some of the talent in the kids, along with the amount of entries in the photo gallery.

It gives me a little faith that hockey is reaching the kids out there and kids still enjoy the game.
