Hog wild
May 29th, 2007
Alabama has gone hog wild. At least in the eyes of an 11-year-old hunter who bagged a 1,000+ pound, 9-feet-4 inch wild hog. The animal was shot on a hunting preserve near Oxford, Alabama.
Listen to the podcast of the taxodermist charged with mounting such a beast.
Holiday swing
May 27th, 2007
It’s Memorial Day weekend and that means summer is just around the corner. Most of us will be enjoying some kind of outdoor activity this weekend from grilling to camping, it’s all about relaxing.
One way to enjoy the outdoors and relaxing at the same time is with a porch swing. This Old House has a great article teaching all of us how to build a porch swing. If you’re looking for a good way to relax, a project like this will be rewarding once it’s done. So swing on by and build yourself a porch swing.
Heads up for safety
May 25th, 2007
We’ve all heard the saying ’safety first’. Ryan Lipscomb knows all too well the importance of wearing a helmet.
Ryan was riding his bike home after a hard day at school, when a delivery truck cut him off and turned in front of him. Ryan locked down the brakes and slide under the truck. What happened next is hard to believe. The truck wheel ran over Ryan’s head. Ryan sums up the experience:
“I didn’t see it coming, but I sure felt it roll over my head. It feels really strange to have a truck run over your head.”
Ryan was wearing his helmet and as a result, is going to be fine. Safety first takes on an all new meaning when something like this happens.
BTW, the helmet was a Giro (incase you’re in the market for an upgrade).
