This past weekend at the Teva Mountain Games, Floyd Landis entered a race. Not a road race, but a mountain bike race. His first such race since 1998.
Landis knew he’d be out of shape:
“I’m going to suffer, but I’ll be alright. “
Landis admitted after the race that he hasn’t been training much since the trial but was eager to get back in the saddle. Landis showed all of us that even with adversity, you can still live on. You can work or ride hard and people will respect you.
Landis did however receive some negative sentiment from a few other riders:
“The general sentiment in my social circle is disappointment that he’s here racing, myself included. I think it’s inappropriate to have him racing.” said Travis Brown
Landis was racing as part of the Athletes for a Cure team, which was representing the charity of the same name. The team also included runner Simon Guttierez and kayaker Tao Berman.
