Many folks following the tour wrote him off. After a crash earlier in the Tour, many removed Alexandre Vinokourov from their list of favorites to win.

Stage 13 proved a different story. The stage was a sprint stage leading up to a visit to the Pyrenees on Sunday. For 33 miles the sprinters raced on and it took Vinokourov only 1 hour, 6 minutes, and 34 seconds to complete the stage. In doing so, Vinokourov improved his standings in the tour from 19 to 9th.
