Unreviewed

In the March issue of Maxim, the magazine “reviewed” one of my favorite bands, The Black Crowes, upcoming album Warpaint. The album was rated two-and-a-half stars out of five.

Later, the band posted on it’s own web site that the writer for Maxim hadn’t heard the entire album and had only heard one song. Reason being: advanced copies of the album weren’t available.

In the magazines words, the review was an “educated guess”.

I don’t really think you can fairly call that a review now, can you?

I saw that too. Hang on a moment though, you read Maxim for the reviews?

It reminds me of Mitch Albom’s fraudlent “on the scene” quotes by Michigan State basketball players (Mitch hadn’t actually attended the games) and Lewis Lapham’s “review” of the Republican Convention that was written and published before the actual event.
