Trash Talk

February 18th, 2008

Greenbiz is reporting news from Beaverton, Ore., that Nike has teamed up with Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash to produce a shoe that is mostly made from manufacturing waste and other materials that would normally be discarded.

The shoe is part of a bigger ‘green’ initiative that Nike is working towards that would allow their footwear to meet sustainability standards by 2011.

Nash was planning on wearing the show during the NBA All-Star game on Sunday.

In the bike business

February 15th, 2008

In an article published yesterday, Austin360 reports that Lance Armstrong is soon to be in the bike shop business.

In May, Armstrong is planning on opening a bike shop in downtown Austin that will consist of a bike shop, commuting center, training facility and cafe. The name for the shop is said to be Mellow Johnny’s.

The shop will focus on the bike commuter. The shop will sell:

commuter bikes, mountain bikes, triathlon bikes, fixed-gear bikes, low-riders, cruiser-style bikes and even hand-made “art bikes” that look as good hanging on a wall as they do rolling down the street.

Only time will tell if the shop is a success, but I’m betting it’ll be an overnight success.

Winterfest

February 14th, 2008

I own my share of Patagonia gear and I have to say that it’s great quality. For a limited time, you can take advantage of Winterfest and pick up some of the best gear in the business at some great prices.

If you’re in need of some cold weather gear, you can’t go wrong with Patagonia.

But the other kids…

“I like to play indoors better ’cause that’s where all the electrical outlets are.” —fifth grader

In an article over at Treehugger, seems more and more kids would rather stay inside and play video and computer games than play outside. Is this a product of technology or a laziness among kids?
