Finally yellow

October 18th, 2007

Oscar Pereiro has been waiting for this moment for a long time now.

On Monday, Pereiro was given the yellow jersey for the 2006 Tour de France. Pereiro finished second in the race to Floyd Landis and as a result of the Landis trial, Pereiro was moved from second to first.

“I have the feeling of arriving at the end of a thriller, after having spent 14 months thinking about it and not being able to concentrate as I should have on my job,” Pereiro said. “It is essentially a kind of release.”

Appeal

October 11th, 2007

In a last ditch effort to retain his 2006 Tour de France title, cyclist Floyd Landis is appealing his doping case.

Last month, a panel ruled that Landis had indeed used performance enhancing substances during his win, which forced Landis to give up the title.

Landis continues to profess he’s innocent and that something needs to change in the sport in regards to drug testing and the handling of drug samples.

“I want to take this opportunity to say again, that I am innocent of the doping allegations against me,” Landis said Wednesday in a statement announcing his decision. “I hope that the arbitrators of the case will fairly address the facts showing that the French laboratory made mistakes, which resulted in a false positive. Although the process of proving my innocence has been difficult for me and my family, I will not stop trying to prove my innocence.”

Messenger Appreciation Day

October 9th, 2007

Today is Messenger Appreciation Day. If you see one of these brave and valuable couriers pedaling away on their bike, show them some respect or buy them a beverage. Without them, big cities all over the world would be adding additional traffic congestion and causing harm more harm to the environment.
